Fly Away
Well, I've officially applied to teach in South Korea this fall. I have an interview with the recruiting company on Thursday (my sister had hers today...we're going together). I'm pretty sure I've got all the paper work I need, at least all the stuff that I can get before I have an actual job offer. In a couple of months I could be living in Seoul and putting my degree to some use!!

GK - Your dad's a truck driver?
There are several things I have to get used to now that I am back in Kamloops after living in Vancouver for so long. The lack of mobility is definitely one of them. In Vancouver it never mattered that I don't drive - the bus and Skytrain can take me anywhere. Here, though, the bus system is severely lacking. I can walk to one of my jobs, but the other one I have to either get a ride, or try to catch a bus. I understand that a smaller city can't have such a huge transit network...but that doesn't mean I have to like it :)

Another adjustment to make is being back in the same house as my parents - and I think this is just as much something to get used to for them as well! They've been on their own for as long as my sister and I have been gone, and they're used to doing things their own way, whereas my sister and I are either expecting things to be how they were before we left, or still doing things how we did them when we lived on our own, or some combination thereof. It makes for some interesting times.

I feel like the only person left on the internet who hasn't seen the new Star Trek yet...which is why I am determined to go tonight. Maybe not the best idea, since it's Tuesday, but it fits into my schedule and it's earlier than Saturday (when some of my friends are going) so that's what matters :)
Did anyone see Saturday Night Live this week? Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy made a surprise appearance on Weekend Update...it was very cute, especially the part where Chris Pine says that he and Zach 'wanted to come out' - I laughed :)

I spent Friday morning in the ER (it seems like I probably have a shellfish allergy...) and at one point they paged Dr. Reid over the intercom and I was giggling to myself. Luckily no one noticed or I may have been in there longer!
Also, I really enjoyed the Dollhouse finale, I'm saddened by the fact that I haven't seen the new Star Trek yet, and I need some icons for my Dreamwidth account.

Today I saw an ad on Facebook that said that [info]temaris wanted to kill me.
What's the matter with these people?! Are they not getting enough clicks from the 'so and so has a crush on you' type ads?

Clueless - what an insult! :)
It is April first and it is snowing!!!
I guess if I had invented a weather machine I'd want to unveil it's awesome power on April Fool's Day too.
Also, I don't appear to have a WTF?! type icon...

"If you wanted them you should have gunshotted them."

This is in reference to the stickers that come in the Domino magazine. Apparently she wants them for herself...

Quote Generation Kill

GK - we can work with this
When you see this, quote Generation Kill in your journal.

My quotes are from the book, which I just happen to be in the middle of reading, but both scenes happen in the mini series as well -- with a couple of slight differences.

1. Page 142 (Colbert's Humvee gets stuck in the sabka)

The battalion operations chief runs across the sand, shouting at Colbert, "Abandon your Humvee!" He orders him to set it on fire with an incendiary grenade, yelling, "Thermite the radios!"

Colbert pounds the roof of his Humvee, screaming, "I'm not abandoning this vehicle!"

One of Espera's Marines watching the spectacle from a distance glumly observes, "We're going to die because Colbert's in love with his Humvee."

2. Page 147 (they have no LSA lubricant for the Mark-19's)

We climb into the Humvee. After Person starts the engine, Fick pokes his head in the window, grinning. "Present for you." He passes in a small water bottle, filled with about two inches of amber fluid. "LSA," he says. "I scammed it off some guys in RCT-1."

"Sir, not to get homoerotic about this," Colbert says, "But I could kiss you."

So, I think I've been kidding myself. Ever since I had to leave school there's a part of me that's believed that was some sort of magic bullet. LIke, all I needed to do was move back home and suddenly my health would just fall into line. I wanna go to Korea in the fall, so by the fall I'll be 'cured'. I wanna get a nice job so I can save some money to actually get to Korea, well then I'll just wake up every morning feeling refreshed and motivated and ready to get a job and go to work. The doctor say the pills take one to two years, not for Cristina, for Cristina it'll be maybe 9 or 10 months.
The worst part is that I never went more than a few days at a time without having some sort of plan for the 'future' and now I feel like I have no idea. And I guess it's, you know, scary or terrifying or totally making me insane. As easy going as I like to think I am, I think I've just been afraid of the unknown all along.

Fast and Furious!!!

tFatF - here's lookin at you
In a little over a month it will officially be canon that Dom and Brian do see each other again after the first movie. This makes me very happy. So happy that I have made this post about all my favourite Dom/Brian things to share with you.

To start with, if you have no idea what I'm talking about - well, I have no way of knowing if that's because you're not a slasher, or you are but you hate cars, or what. So, for the basics, The Fast and the Furious is a movie about car racing and it has slashy subtext that jumps off the screen and molests all the fen in the front row, or some other snappy, funny metaphor :)

The two main characters are basically in love with each other, despite ending up on opposite sides of the law (*swoon*). Now, I don't want to sound like a giddy schoolgirl (too late, way too late) but Dom/Brian is one of my super sekrit OTPs and the kind of 'comfort' pairing that I love to come back to again and again.

A lot of that is due to the extremely talented writers and artists that are also interested in Dom/Brian. It's not a huge fandom, but it has some great stuff!! I've put together some of my favourites, along with some more info on the new movie, technically the fourth in the franchise.

1.Some basics first - where to find stuff on LJ:
First up is the Ship Manifesto, which I think is totally awesome: Ship Manifesto by khaleesian

[info]quarter_mile - this is a great community for all the movies; fic, art etc.

Crack Van
-here's a link to the entries tagged with The Fast and the Furious at Crack Van

Newbie Guide - and here's the Newbie Guide for the movie

And, an absolutely wonderful essay about fashion in the movie, Essay by gwyn-r

2.And now we graduate to the fic... :)

-to start with, I'd recommend anything written by [info]khaleesian
Main Website, tFatF Fiction
I personally love all the Alternate Endings stories as well as the crossovers 'Repo Men' and 'Jia's Challenge' which is a Round Robin with several authors.

-next up we have the 'big tuna', Unfinished Business by [info]maygra ([info]maygra_fic)
Also, be sure to check out the crossovers 'The Fast and the Furyan' and 'It Takes One to Know One', they're both really great.

-I also love Judas Kiss by Joe Lawson, The Fall by tenth muse and posts like this can really help you when you're looking for more stories :)

3.Here's the Official Site for the new movie, only 41 days!! :)

Slash Compatriots
Here's a link to a post by [info]pun about a secret handshake, for, you know... us. :P

http://pun.livejournal.com/313837.html

Ironically, I was just the other day trying to explain to my mum about the day I first met [info]stareyednight and how there are little things you might say in a conversation with a new person to try and gauge whether or not they're a Fan, or a Slasher, until finally you get to a point where it all becomes clear and you can say, "You like LotR RPS? Me too!!" That's a great moment :)

If I want to offer my services as a beta (multi-fandom) are there any recommended communities?
I've found several just doing an interests search, but I'd love any opinions :)

I've started writing a J2 AU based on the song China Grove. It's totally crazy - I know - but I've got 25 pages (longhand) and it seems to actually be working out okay. In addition, even my original fic seems to be getting somewhere.
I guess I'm feeling a bit surprised that my efforts at trying to write more are actually working (especially since I read 16 books in January!). Most of the credit should go to [info]findyourwords and all the awesome people there that are so encouraging every week - Thanks!! :)

I never thought it would come to this, but I think I need to buy more icon spaces. The reason? ...Generation Kill
Of course I've always loved icons (sometimes I make my own, *gasp*, I know!) but 50+ always seemed like plenty of spaces. Today, however, I went on a crazy binge, saving GK icons left and right and now there's no where to put them. I need to give equal representation to all my favourite characters - and there are quite a few of them!! :)
